No, it's not April, but for some reason we keep getting surprised! Sony introduced a redesign of their Vita handheld today, with a slimmer, lighter unit packing 1GB of internal memory, an LCD screen (vs. OLED in the existing Vita) and promises of better battery life. The new Vita will be released on October 10th in Japan.
More intriguing was Sony's announcement of the PS Vita TV, a small micro-console measuring 60mm by 100mm that allows you to play Vita games on your TV. It pairs with a Dualshock 3 controller, and has a Vita game card slot and Vita memory card slot. An OUYA competitor, perhaps?
Sony promises that the PS Vita TV will do more than games, offering access to video streaming services, for example. It will also have interoperability with the new PS4, letting you play Vita games on the bigger console, as well as PS4 remote play.
The PS Vita TV releases on November 14th in Japan.
